What does a lifejacket service include?
Each lifejacket is inspected carefully to assess its overall condition and confirm that its key components are working correctly.
Depending on the type and manufacturer, servicing may include:
- Inspection of the outer cover, webbing, stitching and buckles
- Inflation and pressure testing of the bladder
- Inspection of the oral inflation tube and valve
- Checking the firing mechanism
- Inspection of the CO2 cylinder
- Checking automatic activation components
- Inspection and testing of fitted lights where applicable
- PLB checks where fitted
- Inspection of the whistle, lifting loop and reflective material
- Checking service dates and component expiry dates
- Replacement of serviceable components where required
- Repacking the lifejacket correctly after testing
- Recording the inspection and certification
Any replacement components or additional repairs required will be discussed before further work is carried out.
Commercial and multiple-lifejacket servicing
We can accommodate bookings containing several lifejackets, including mixed brands and specifications.
Our online booking form allows you to provide the details of each individual lifejacket. This helps us prepare for the service, identify any likely replacement parts and keep accurate records for each unit.
For larger commercial quantities, sailing clubs or organisational bookings, please contact us directly so we can discuss scheduling, collection and documentation requirements.
What happens if a lifejacket fails its inspection?
If we identify a fault, expired component or area of damage, we will explain what is required before carrying out additional work.
In some cases, replacement parts may be sufficient. In others, the lifejacket may no longer be considered economical or suitable to return to service.
We will not present a lifejacket as serviced or serviceable unless it has completed the appropriate inspection and testing process.
Which lifejackets can we service?
We can inspect and service a range of manual and automatic inflatable lifejackets from recognised marine manufacturers.
The exact service procedure and availability of replacement parts can vary by brand, model and age. We therefore ask customers to provide as much information as possible when making a booking, including:
- Manufacturer
- Model
- Buoyancy rating
- Manual or automatic operation
- Serial number, where available
- Approximate age
- Details of any known faults or previous inflation
If you are unsure of any of these details, you can still submit a booking. Our team can inspect the lifejacket when it arrives.
