Eyemouth Marine Secures £6,000 Grant for Training Centre Viability Study

This initiative is being progressed by leveraging a £6,000 grant from the Coastal Communities Fund, which is funded by the Crown Estate and administered by the Scottish Borders Council. The ultimate function of the completed study is to serve as a comprehensive business plan.

This document will be critical for securing further, more substantial funding from organisations such as the council's economic development team. Initial reception from the council has been highly positive, with officials indicating that they view the project as "much needed" for the region.

At Eyemouth Marine, we recognise the importance of upskilling young people with tangible and transferable skillsets within the marine industry. As well as technical ability, marine skills open pathways to long-term employment, build confidence, and connect young people with a sector that is vital to our coastal identity and economy.

By providing structured training and hands-on experience, we can help the next generation develop problem-solving abilities, resilience, and a strong work ethic, while also addressing the growing skills shortage across the maritime sector. Investing in young people today ensures a thriving, sustainable marine workforce for tomorrow.
